Balancing Rocks & Safari

Pércia
My first visitor (my friend Pércia from Mozambique) arrived here a couple of days ago :) This is her first time in Zimbabwe and so far she seems to be enjoying it. Last Sunday we joined a few of my new friends - Yusuke (a volunteer with JICA - Japan International Cooperation Agency), Noriko and Nelson (both work for the UN) - for a short trip just outside Harare. We went to the famous Balancing Rocks and to the Mbizi Game Park - a small safari park.

The Balancing Rocks were amazing! It's incredible to think that these huge rocks, perfectly balanced on top of one another, have formed completely naturally! We even climbed on top of some to get a nice view of the whole area. We could see all of the surrounding rocks, the nearby villages, the airport and even the tall buildings in central Harare. Noriko brought a Ten Trillion (yes, with a "T") Zimbabwe Dollar note (no longer in use) which has the balancing rocks proudly displayed on the front of the bill - we took pictures with it.

Mbizi was also great. We went on an hour long tour with a guide and we saw zebras, giraffes and some antelopes. This was my first safari experience (it's about time - I've been in Africa for close to two months already). I had never seen animals like these in their natural habitat before, so it was a truly exciting experience. On our way out of the park we even saw a monkey hiding in the trees (bonus) - it was too quick and I couldn't get a picture of it, but it was there :)!

For more pictures you can check out my January album.
